I wish this picture had come out better, but: This year’s Preakness mascot appears to be a rapping Easter Bunny with a hook for a hand who spells Preakness “Preekness” because, uh, that’s how the rappers spell it, I guess?

Someone posted this to the carlstadt-today website:
“Bring back the 8th St. street signs. No one is happy here.”
I’m not sure what signs were removed. Perhaps someone can fill in the details.

East side yard waste will now be collected on Mondays.
West side yard waste will now be collected on Tuesdays.
The Bergen County tax assessor has ordered a reassessment of home values in Carlstadt for the purpose of adjusting the dollar value of homes and properties for local and county tax collection.
The tax assessors will enter each home and do a survey of content and grounds to determine fair-market value. If you are not home when they come by, a form will be left to arrange an appointment.
When completed, a new tax rate will be applied to each home in the borough.
A couple of thoughts:
It’s a good thing that they’re doing this now. With the collapse of the housing market, home values are down.
People who bought during the time of the housing boon, should see their taxes decrease.
Those of us who bought homes when they were cheap will probably see an increase.
The way I see it, the county and town need X amount of dollars to function. No matter what the reval is, they still have to collect that same amount of money. Therefore, overall taxes will stay pretty much the same. I wouldn’t panic.

I’m trying to replace the question and answer page with this tumblr blog. People will be able to answer directly through the comments link using their facebook, google, or Yahoo accounts. You can also like comments or answers you agree with. It should make it less clunky for users. Unfortunately, you can’t submit questions directly and there’s no place for a form field. You have to email them to me.
